Professors of CAS attended European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2017

The General Assembly 2017 of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) was held at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) in Vienna, Austria, from 23–28 April 2017. Six professors of CAS, Yunjun Zhou, Tiangui Xiao, Guoping Li, Liya Jin, Wei Hua, and Chao Wang, was invited attendance and delivered academic lectures in the assembly. Their lectures’ titles are: “The Influences of Current Propagation Velocity of CG Lightning Return Stroke and Propagation Medium Conductivity on Lightning Horizontal Electric Fields” , “The Influence of Low-frequency Oscillation Propagation of the Tibetan Plateau Vortex on Rainstorm Downstream” , “Analysis of Mechanism of Tibetan Plateau Vortex Frequency Differences between Strong and Weak MJO Periods” , “Similar speleothemδ18O signals indicating diverging climate variations in inland central Asia and monsoonal south Asia during the Holocene” , “Trends and Uncertainties in Surface Air Temperature over the Tibetan Plateau, 1951-2013”, “Testing and Improving the Performance of CoLM (Common Land Model) over Gobi Desert Surface”.
The General Assembly 2017 was again a great success with 4,849 oral, 11,312 poster, and 1,238 PICO presentations. 649 unique scientific sessions together with 88 short courses and 322 side events created an interesting program. At the conference 14,496 scientists from 107 countries participated, of which 53% were under the age of 35 years. The research field include: atmospheric science, biology, eternal circle science, energy / resources and environment, geodesy, geodynamics, topography, geophysical equipment and instruments, hydrology, magnetology, magmatic physics and materials, nature disaster, nonlinear process geophysics, oceanography, planetary and solar system science, seismology, soil science, solar-terrestrial sciences, stratigraphy / sedimentology and paleontology, tectonic and structural geology, volcanology / geochemistry, petrology ,mineralogy.
