Maoshan Li of the institute of atmospheric science participated in the first session of the results report of the second scientific investigation on the qinghai-tibet plateau
On September 5, the first results report of the second scientific investigation on the qinghai-tibet plateau will be held in Lhasa. The meeting was attended by various units involved in the second qinghai-tibet plateau expedition and news media. Maoshan Li of school of atmospheric science of chengdu university of information technology attended this lecture as the representative of our school who participated in the second scientific investigation.
The conference released the results one year after the scientific study in 2017: “water towers in Asia” have changed. Over the past 50 years, the number of lakes over 1 square kilometer on the qinghai-tibet plateau has increased from 1,081 to 1,236, and the area of lakes has increased from 40,000 square kilometers to 47,400 square kilometers. But the Tibetan plateau and its adjacent glaciers have shrunk by 15 percent, and the plateau’s permafrost has shrunk by 16 percent. The Tibetan plateau has turned green. Over the past 35 years, the average vegetation index in the qinghai-tibet plateau has increased by 3.2%. The qinghai-tibet plateau ecosystem is generally good.
Next step, the project office of the qinghai-tibet scientific research project plans to establish a data sharing platform for the qinghai-tibet scientific research, establish an international center for the transfer and transformation of qinghai-tibet scientific investigation and an industry-university-research cooperative technology innovation alliance, and further promote the rapid and efficient transfer and transformation of scientific research achievements and industrial technology innovation.
