Six People from the School of Atmospheric Sciences Went to Vienna, Austria, to Attend the Joint Conference of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in 2019

The 2019 Joint Conference of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) takes place in the Austrian capital Vienna on April 8, solstice 12. At the conference, 16,273 scientists from 113 countries and regions participated in the exchange and discussion on the latest development of geoscience-related disciplines. The conference mainly takes the form of Oral programme, Poster programme and Pico programme. The 2019 EGU conference had 5,531 Oral presentations, 9,432 Poster programmes and 1,287 Pico programmes. The conference covers a wide range of topics, including planetary exploration, earth’s internal structure, climate, environment, energy and resources, etc. The annual EGU conference is the largest academic exchange activity in the field of earth science in Europe.

Six teachers from the School of Atmospheric Sciences of our university attended the meeting and made exchange reports on the achievements of scientific research in different sub-sessions. Professor Xiaoling Zhang and doctor Ping Kang made Oral programmes, entitled as Seasonal and Diurnal Variation of Black Carbon on Surface and its Vertical Distribution within Boundary Layer in Sichuan Basin, China, Study of the Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Ozone and Its Influence Factors over Sichuan Basin Based on Generalized Additive Model, respectively. Professor Yuanfa Gong and doctor Miao Hu, Liang Yuan, Bangjun Cao made Poster programmes, respectively entitled as Changes of Moisture Budget over Southeast Tibetan Plateau and its Impacts on Precipitation of China in Summer, Influence of winter Arctic Oscillation on Arctic sea ice concentration, Aerosol optical properties and the mixing state of black carbon at a background mountainous site in Eastern China, Effect of Mesoscale Land Use Change on Characteristics of Convective Boundary Layer: Semi-Idealized Large Eddy Simulations over Northwest China. While visiting and studying at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, Dr. Fei Ge made a Poster programme as Projected changes of precipitation min over Southeast Asia under 1.5 and 2 degrees global warming.

During the conference, participants listened to multiple area at the venue of the academic report, showed themselves’ and the team’s research results, and actively took the initiative to communicate with international experts and peer discussion for related fields in the world, further understood the latest research progress, met the relevant experts in the field of study, developed the research train of thought, which has good help for the future research work and the international communication.
