Xinyu Liu (the first author), a graduate student from the School of Atmospheric Science (SAS), published an academic article on the international journal “Atmospheric Environment” in December 2016. The article is “Spatial distribution and temporal variation of aerosol optical depth in the Sichuan basin, China, the recent ten year “. This paper is a collaborative work, Prof. Quanliang Chen from SAS and Prof. Huizheng Che from Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, are corresponding authors.

The paper showed MODIS AOD agreed well with ground measurement over Sichuan Basin. The AOD over Sichuan indicates an “high in east and low in west” pattern. In recent 10 years, AOD decreased generally, but increased in some parts of western region. Overall, the average value of AOD reached its highest values in spring and its lowest values in autumn. The Chengdu AOD monthly and seasonal average change rate was higher than that of Sichuan as a whole. This shows that Chengdu is still the main contributor to the enhanced AOD value for the entire Sichuan region.
