Seminar of “The Research on Observational Experiment and Data Application of Cloud Precipitation Physical Process in Tibetan Plateau” was Held by Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, CUIT and Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences
On May 25, 2018, a seminar of “The Research on Observational Experiment and Data Application of Cloud Precipitation Physical Process in Tibetan Plateau” was successfully held in Beijing by the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, CUIT and Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. 15 experts from the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Chengdu University of Information Technology, Peking University, Nanjing University of Information Technology, Shaanxi Institute of Meteorology, etc. attended the seminar, including Xiuji Zhou, the famous cloud precipitation physicist in China. Yunjun Zhou, deputy dean of the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, and Prof. Shigong Wang, Prof. Yu Zhang, Associate Professor Wei Hua and other representatives from CUIT attended the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Shigong Wang.
The Tibetan Plateau has great influencea on the weather and climate in China and even East Asia. Observations and studies on the physical processes of cloud precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau are currently the focus and breakthrough points in the meteorological field at home and abroad. The seminar aimed at in-depth exchanges and discussions about the radar, satellite and aircraft observations of cloud precipitation physical processes in the Tibetan Plateau, inversion of cloud and precipitation parameters, macro and microscopic features and evolution mechanisms of cloud precipitation, and optimization of microphysical parameterization of cloud precipitation numerical models, as well the seminar planned to jointly conduct observational experiments and research in the next 1-2 years. During the seminar, experts gave reports to have in-depth exchanges and discussions, which has arisen good responses and influences.
Academician Xiuji Zhou and other experts presented has affirmed the scientific achievements of CUIT in the Tibetan Plateau in recent years and made good suggestions. Vice President Ping Zhao of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences provided guidance on the construction of the characteristic scientific research team of CUIT, the future development of the study of plateau meteorology, and the training of graduate student, etc.
