Dr Zhang Banglin from guangdong province meteorological bureau was invited to our school for academic report

November 13 morning, the first overseas leader of guangdong provincial bureau of meteorology, the science director of the key laboratory of the regional weather forecast of guangdong province, Dr. Zhang Bonling, was invited by the college of atmospheric sciences and entitled “Improved Hurricane/Typhoon Forecasts with Higher Vertical Resolution Models”and “Impact of Sea Surface Temperature on Changes of Tropical Cyclone Frequency under Global Warming” report in meteorological floor conference room 310. This report was hosted by professor Jin Liya, and the teachers and students of the school of atmospheric science participated actively.

Dr Zhang Banglin firstly introduces linear trend of tropical cyclones in 1977-2016 and its correlation with sea surface temperature, forecast the business development of tropical cyclone storm has application value. Then, he analyzes the vertical structure of HWRF and the GRAPES, the application of the typhoon patterns and the margin of error, and these are indicative of the pattern development.

The research results of Dr. Zhang bonlin not only have important practical significance for the development of numerical forecasting, but also his persistence spirit and scientific research spirit of finding and solving problems in work are also worth learning by teachers and students. After the lecture, experts and all the teachers and students has carried on the discussion. The exchange activities to build a good academic atmosphere, provide important inspiration.

Expert introduction: Dr Zhang Banglin is guangdong province meteorological bureau’s first overseas introduction, the China meteorological administration “double hundred program distinguished experts”. Long engaged in climate, data assimilation and numerical prediction model of research and business development efforts.
