On December 25th, Professor Zhigang Wei of Beijing Normal University was invited by Chengdu University of Information Technology to make an academic report on The Observation of Land- atmosphere Interaction in the Subtropical Forest of Fenghuang Mountain in Zhuhai in Room 310 of the Meteorological Building. This report was hosted by Jun Wen, a professor of the School of Atmospheric Sciences. The teachers and students of the School of Atmospheric Sciences actively participated.

At the beginning of the report, Prof. Wei outlined the current research status of forest land-atmosphere interaction and the distribution of forests in China. He explained the geographical location of Fenghuang Mountain in Zhuhai and its surrounding areas, and gradually analyzed the reasons for choosing Fenghuang Mountain as the site of observation tower, and introduced the shape and location of the tower. In the following report, Prof. Wei introduced the wind and humidity instruments, the atmospheric boundary layer and canopy equipment of the Zhuhai Observatory, the soil instruments and equipment, and the flux observation system, radiation observation system and meteorology installed on the tower in detail. Secondly, Professor Wei conducted the processing and quality evaluation of flux data, including the processing of raw turbulence data, flux calculation and necessary correction, quality control and evaluation. He used ultrasound virtual temperature correction, WPL correction, coordinate rotation, and frequency response correction for flux data correction. The stability and sufficiency of turbulent development were tested, and the turbulence quality was graded in combination with the stability and sufficiency. Data with a quality of the first six levels were selected to study the changing characteristics, including relative humidity, temperature, latent heat, sensible heat, soil moisture, radiation, CO2 exchange, and daily variation of temperature. Finally, Prof. Wei made a representative analysis of the surface roughness and flux spatial representation of the southern subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest in the Fenghuang Mountain, and made a comprehensive systematic summary of the establishment of the observation station on the complex terrain.

After the report, Mr. Jun Wen expressed his gratitude to Professor Zhigang Wei again. Professor Wei had a positive exchange with the teachers and students. He compared the selection of the specificity and representativeness of the observation site and the difficulty in observing the internal turbulence of the canopy in depth discussion.
